Making neighbours with the likes of Courts Club, Trading Route, Fenix and Aviva Studios, a brand-new tavern inspired by the ‘unfussy, great British pub’ has now opened its doors in the heart of Manchester’s St John’s neighbourhood in the historic Bonded Warehouse.
Great for any hop aficionados as this new boozer, the Stables Tavern, boasts multiple taps making up a solid but not overwhelming line-up: local keg beers, a rotating cast of real ales and the perk of free bowls of crisps arriving without fanfare - just as they should be.
Scran on offer keeps things honest too, with punters able to nibble on some handmade sausage rolls, locally-sourced pies and other classic pub nosh, paired to complement the drinks rather than fight them.
Spatially, Stables Tavern has it nailed. A sunny terrace perfect for those first rays of summer while the main bar buzzes with midday crowds and post-office pints. Plus, a cosy parlour out back promises live shows, old-school parlour games and whiskey rounds when the darker nights arrive.
The building has a rich history, and during the early 19th Century it was a busy watering hole for Manchester’s workers, merchants and visitors who passed through the city’s canals. The site was also previously home to Coronation Street’s iconic Rovers Return.
The latest addition in the recent redevelopment of the area, which has seen openings like Courts Club, Trading Route, Fenix and Aviva Studios, the pub returns with nods to its original identity.
Shiko Group, which operates other popular venues including Side Street and the neighbouring Courts Club, are behind the new project.
Hayley Sammé, Marketing Director, says: "We’re so excited to bring The Stables Tavern back to St John’s. The area’s extensive historical backdrop and burgeoning hospitality scene provides the perfect landscape for a traditional British pub.
"It’s the perfect addition to the existing scene, and we hope it’s going to become a popular spot in our new creative district."
