Higher Ground and Ormë make the Michelin Guide

28 September 2023

Two of Manchester’s most-loved newcomers have bagged themselves a place in the prestigious Michelin Guide.

Modern-British bistro Higher Ground and Urmston tasting restaurant Ormë are the latest northern venues to be added to the Guide, which documents and reviews some of the world’s best restaurants.

Speaking of their listing, Higher Ground said: We’re honoured to be listed within the Michelin Guide. In the kitchen we spend a lot of time sourcing our produce, fish and meat as carefully and locally as possible, so to have the team recognised by such a prestigious guide is fantastic.”

Ormë added: “We've been keeping a little secret. After just eight weeks we had a visit from Michelin and after a whirlwind four months, we can now announce that we are recommended in the Michelin Guide alongside some of Greater Manchester's most exceptional restaurants! This is a dream come true for us, big shout out to our team, we could not do this without you.”

Higher Ground began life as a travelling pop-up from the team behind Ancoats wine bar Flawd and Cinderwood Market Garden. Since opening its permanent restaurant on New York Street in Manchester city centre it has received rave reviews from diners for its homegrown produce that is expertly transformed into creative dishes.

The menu regularly changes, but you can expect the likes of pig skin chips and green onion mayo, wild sea bream, wet spring garlic and bitter leaves, pea fritters, Quicke’s cheddar and cane sugar ice cream available to try. A list of small plates that you’re unlikely to find anywhere else.

Ormë is another new addition to Manchester’s burgeoning food scene. The tasting menu restaurant focuses its dishes on seasonality, using ferments, sustainable seafood and the freshest cuts of meat to craft some truly unique plates. The intimate restaurant also puts together drinks flights that combine some of the best English wines with complimentary flavours of the tasting menu.

Ormë has been open only four months, but in that time five-star reviews have been rolling in, with one diner describing the service as “impeccable” and that the restaurant is a “place is an absolute gem and can’t rate it highly enough.”

Higher Ground and Ormë join other Manchester restaurants including; Another Hand, El Gato Negro, 63 Degrees, The Spärrows, Erst, OSMA, Where The Light Gets In and more that have also made the Michelin Guide.
