HOME OF THE FOAM: Trof, Manchester Union and Wandering Palate unite to open new bar

28 November 2024 by Rhiannon Ingle

The likes of Trof, Manchester Union Brewery and Wandering Palate have all teamed up for a very exciting collaboration acting as a lager house for Manchester Union.

The new venue, The Trading Route, which is set to open next week (6th December), is nestled on Goods Yard Street in the heart of Manchester’s thriving Enterprise City, serving cold beer and hot chicken as well as offering a luxury larder of expertly-sourced goods.

Making neighbours with Factory International, FENIX and the recently-opened Caravan, The Trading Route is promising punters the 'perfect pour' with their acclaimed lager served with a continental-style technique to give a full and frothy head, ensuring the beer is in complete balance.

Pints will be served in custom-made Tübinger glasses, as the bar promises to become The Home of The Foam, and a go-to destination for a post-work pint.

Set to open 'from dawn until dusk', the bar’s purpose-built rotisserie will serve crisp whole and half chicken carved to order fresh from the oven, served with pickles and dips as part of a menu crafted by the Trof team and designed for sharing.

And to help soak up all that beer, The Trading Route will be serving up fresh focaccia baked in-house giving a cheap and cheerful bit of scran for nearby office workers.

The menu also features a number of proper good small plates including slow-roasted potatoes served with chicken fat mayo, salsa verde, and pecorino, salads and house-made sweets.

Having become a local staple in their home of Monton, Wandering Palate will be bringing their expertly sourced pantry of provisions to Manchester city centre, ideal for those looking to pick up artisan goods after a pint or pop in for something special on the way back from work to drink from the comfort of their home.

Their Salford outpost has been dubbed one of the finest wine cellars in the region with equal hype surrounding their highly sought-after cheeses and sundries - all of which they’ll be bringing to Goods Street Yard.

Jamie Scahill from Manchester Union said: "The Trading Route is an unofficial tap room for us, and it feels like this has been a long time coming. Working with our friends at Trof and Wandering Palate has been great, with our offerings and expertise perfectly complementing one another. We can’t wait for people to come down to experience our very own lagerhouse over a few pints."

Matt Nellany at Trof continued: "We’ve focused on bringing everything that people love about Trof to an exciting space in a new neighbourhood. The kitchen team have been perfecting a menu ideally suited to our purpose- made rotisserie ovens - think crispy chicken, and some killer vegan options too, all designed to be shared. It’s going to be that perfect spot whether you’re grabbing breakfast, stopping in for lunch, or settling in for a proper evening session."

And, lastly, Will Evans behind the Wandering Palate added: "It’s brilliant to be bringing our wines, cheeses, and deli favourites to a new audience in the city centre. We’ve curated a selection of goods that we’re really proud of, and, of course, we’ll be there to help people discover something special to take home. It’s an exciting space, and we can’t wait for everyone to experience it."
