Honest Crust serves up a slice of North West at the London Pizza Festival

3 September 2015 by Lucy Lovell

Manchester's Honest Crust will be firing up their oven at the inaugural London Pizza Festival, taking place at Borough Market on September 13.

The Manchester based pizza crew will be the only traders north of Bristol joining the festival. Other pizza traders at the event include Bertha's of Bristol, and Sud Italia, Yard Sale and Made of Dough, all based in London.

Honest Crust have gained nationwide recognition for their fusion of neapolitan style pizza and locally sourced produce, which they serve from their permanent home at Altrincham Market and local events with their portable oven.

"I’m really chuffed that we’ve been asked to get involved," Richard Carver, owner of Honest Crust told Taste of Manchester. "We’ve really just been keeping our heads down and concentrating on the day to day business of making the best pizza we can for our customers at Market House. To get some recognition on an national scale is pretty exciting. And there are some other top class people involved such as Graham and Kate from the amazing Bertha’s Pizza in Bristol who are really pushing the scene forward in the UK."

And as for the pizza scene in Manchester?

"It’s definitely showing signs of improvement. More people are beginning to understand what constitutes good pizza. There are some really good mobile traders such as Purely Pizza and Wood, Fire Smoke who really care about the pizza that they’re producing. The opening of PLY was a turning point I think for pizza in the city centre. Certainly a shift in standards for Neapolitan style pizza. The real game changer though will be the opening of Rudy’s Neapolitan Pizza in Ancoats at the end of the month. Jim is obsessed with every detail and that will show in the quality of the pizza that they make."

Get a slice of the action at the London Pizza Festival - the £30 full ticket includes six quarter slices of pizza and one can of the brilliant Beavertown Neck Oil.
