Iberica lead tapas takeover at Albert Square Spanish festival Festejar

AN impressive array of Spanish food specialists is represented at Festejar, a four-day celebration (Sept 1-4) of all things Spanish, back in Albert Square for a third year.

The festival, sponsored by leading Rioja brand Marques de Caceres, will kick off in style on September 1 with a one-off performance from one of the world’s leading Spanish flamenco tribute bands, The Andalus Band.

The following night, the chilled out vibe of Ibiza will come to Festejar as celebrated DJ Miguel Manzano presents a unique electronic musical story tracing the story of dance music on Ibiza and the hypnotic spell it has cast upon the world.

Then over the course of the four day festival, activities will include Spanish dance lessons, crafts, food and drink stalls and daily live music and entertainment.

Patrick Marmion, Festejar organiser, says: “Festejar keeps getting bigger and better and this year’s events promise four days that will transport Manchester’s residents direct to the heart of modern Spanish culture.”

Food, of course, takes centre stage too with a starring role for Iberica, whose Spinningfields restaurant has been such a big hit. Check out their Festejar stall, where their team will serve up Chicken Paella, alongside a tapas menu which includes; green asparagus toast, mini secreto pork loin burgers and the Ibérica octopus a la gallega.

Sweet snacks come from churros specialist Churtopia and there'll be a deli selection to take home from Spanish Cupboard (pictured below) plus a host of street food outlets.

Albert Square, M2 5DB. Thu 1-Sun 4 Sep, 11am-11pm. Free entry. http://spanishfestival.co.uk/spanish-festival-manchester/
