IT’S CUMIN HOME: Euros celebrations at Bundobust

7 June 2024 by Rhiannon Ingle

The OG Indian Street Food & Craft Beer bar, Bundobust Brewery on Oxford Street, will be showing all of England’s Euros games and to make the occasion even more special, the venue will also be launching a new limited-edition menu of nostalgic football specials.

Inspired by fan favourite half-time memories, the new menu includes the limited-edition Vindaloo Pie in collaboration with Northern Pie Co, flavourful vegetable vindaloo encased within the pie maker’s buttery, flaky pastry and served with mushy ragdha and desi gravy.

The menu also takes inspiration from your typical footie chips and hotdog with the Hot Bundog, a soy and mushroom masala hot dog sausage with Thums Up fried onions in a brioche bun, plus Gobi Wingers, crispy-fried cauliflower with garlic, chilli, ginger, and curry leaf, and Mogo Panenka Chip, crispy cassava fries tossed in maple-chilli desi ketchup.

Guests will also find the Rick Stein approved Raghda Pethis; a fusion dish where mushy peas are spiced with garam masala, cooked until tender, and then layered with potato cakes, sev, tomato, onion, and topped off with Bundo’s tamarind chutney. The dish impressed Rick when it featured on the last series of Rick Stein’s Food Stories which saw the renowned TV chef visit the OG Bundobust Leeds location whilst exploring the UK’s food culture.

Mayur Patel, Bundobust Co-Founder said: "The Bundo team are big footy fans and we wanted curate a really welcoming and accessible space to both watch the Euros, as well as hero a menu inspired by it.. There’s such a nostalgia for food at football grounds and we wanted to capture that with the nation's love of pies and curry for the Euros. Enter the Vindaloo Pie. This curry is widely known as the hottest at most Indian restaurants, but ours is true to the traditional style; and the very untraditional style of having it in a pie butty!

"The new specials are inspired by other classics like chips and hot dogs; usually a bland limited offering at a match, but bringing Bundo’s flavours to make this food you’d actually want to eat at the stands to our limited edition Euros specials, including a limited-edition beer to see it off with - to be enjoyed whether you’re watching the football, or not."

Neil Broomfield - Great North Pie Co. Founder added: "We first met Bundo whilst trading at the IMBC in Manchester years ago! We always talked about making a collaboration pie and this seemed like the perfect time.  The vindaloo pie was the perfect fit for the Euro's, we worked on the recipe, using GNPC's brown sauce to replace the Imli and using Bundo's garam masala.  The fillings encased in our all butter pastry and served with spiced mushy raghda peas pairs so well together."
