IT’s a mite macabre how a bar can make two days of fatal distractions spread out over a whole month, but The Beagle in Chorlton is filling the whole of October with its special Day of The Deadfest.
We at Taste of Manchester reckon punters and staff will be dead on their feet by the time the actual days of reckoning in old Mexico – All Souls and All Saints Days, November 1 and 2 respectively, the first the Dia de los Angelitos dedicated to souls of children who have passed away, and Dia de Los Muertos dedicated to spirits of the adult dead.
The Beagle’s contribution to all this general merriment is a series of Mexican food specials, themed cocktails and matched beers.
So expect the Screaming Steak Torta piled high with Carne Asada steak, avocado, Pico de Gallo and salsa verde (£9), Chilling Crabocado Tostadas with crab and avocado on two crunchy tortilla wheels (£6) and Devil’s Pockets with chorizo mince, charred corn, black beans and Lancashire cheese stuffed inside blistered ancho chillies (£4).
Drinkswise it’s the Hell Diablo; jalapeño infused tequila shaken with fresh lime and gomme with jalapeño slices buried beneath crushed ice (£7). There are some splendid craft beers around, too, to cool the chilli-charred tonsils!
