The Aumbry restaurant is hosting a special champagne dinner this Wednesday, 4 April. Up in the suburb of Prestwich, youâll find this modern British restaurant in a cottage that brings to mind the cobbled streets and sweet shops of old. But for all its quaint charm, the cooking is nothing but contemporary.
Chefs are Mary-Ellen McTague and Lawrence Tottingham whose talent in the kitchen has won them accolades like listings in the Michelin and Good Food Guides as well as MFDF awards for Restaurant of the Year (2010) and Chef of the Year (2011). If youâve eaten at the restaurant before, youâll know they specialise in understated elegance on the plate as well as in the surroundings. Both trained at the three Michelin star Fat Duck restaurant in Bray, so they are technically accomplished and blessed with what many consider to the most âvisionâ of the cityâs restaurateurs.
Wednesdayâs special dinner is co-hosted by Gosset Brut champagne. Dating from 1584, this is one of the oldest Champagne producers in France. Located in the north eastern region of Ay, they make a number of fine wines, which, we imagine will complement Mary-Ellen and Lawrenceâs special menu perfectly.
Gosset Brut Excellence dinner, Wednesday 4 April, 7.30pm, £85 per person at Aumbry, 2 Church Lane, Prestwich, M25 1AJ. Tel: 0161 798 5841. www.aumbryrestaurant.co.uk/
