Manchester’s dining scene just keeps getting better. The latest update to the Michelin Guide has landed, and three of the city’s freshest openings have made the cut – proving once again that the North West is one of the most exciting places to eat in the UK right now.
Michelin Stars, Green Stars and Bib Gourmands will still be held back for their glitzy annual ceremony, but the famous red book is quietly updated throughout the year. This month, Manchester got some serious love, with inspectors adding three new names to their ever-growing list of recommended spots.
First up, Pip, the jewel in the crown of the brand-new Treehouse Hotel and the latest project from much-loved local chef Mary-Ellen McTague. Known for her creative, sustainable approach, Mary-Ellen has built Pip around showcasing the very best of North West produce. Michelin praised its 'innovative and conscientious approach to cooking' – not bad for a restaurant that only opened recently.
“We’re over the moon to be included in the Michelin Guide so soon after opening!” said Mary-Ellen. “It’s an incredible honour and a testament to our amazing team and brilliant local suppliers. It’s a daily joy working with them to celebrate the best of the region.”Joining Pip is Winsome, the laid-back newcomer, where celebrated chef Shaun Moffat is running the show in the kitchen. With a focus on bold flavours and proper Northern hospitality, it’s already earned itself a loyal following. Michelin highlighted the “admirably gutsy” dishes built around top-quality British ingredients.
Completing the trio is Cantaloupe, a charming Stockport wine bar and restaurant that’s been turning heads since day one. With its ever-changing daily menu and a focus on simple cooking done exceptionally well, it’s a fantastic addition to Stockport’s rapidly growing food and drink scene.
With these three exciting spots now officially on the Michelin map, it’s clear that Greater Manchester’s culinary reputation is only going one way – up.
