Let the bagpiper wet his whistle! Whisky Tastings at The Fisherman’s Retreat

13 November 2018

A WEE dram or three in the heart of the Lancashire countryside? look no further than The Fisherman’s Retreat in the Twine Valley, three miles east of Ramsbottom, not just a restaurant but also  home to an on-site whisky shop.

It’s in here they are holding a series of whisky tasting evenings throughout November and December. isherman’s  owner Hervey Magnall  hosts the evenings with guest speakers from the whisky industry to guiding guests through the samples on offer.

The next event will take place on Friday, November 23, 7.30pm-11pm, where guests will be invited to take a taste tour through six fine single malt whiskies, with a live bagpiper announcing the entrance to the traditional haggis, neeps and tatties supper. The evening will also include a raffle, with all proceeds raised donated to Bury Hospice. Tickets are priced at £50 and can be booked over the phone on 01706 825314.

On December 21 The Fisherman’s Retreat will host their Christmas Special Whisky Tasting. Beginning with the sound of bagpipes, the evening will commence with Hervey and special guest David Wood, former Distillery Manager of Caol Ila, guiding you through eight hand selected whiskies from each of the distilleries currently producing single malts on the Isle of Islay. You know, the peaty ones. The evening also includes a sucking pig buffet dinner. This costs £60 per person.
