Innovative social enterprise Levenshulme Market is celebrating scooping the West Zone Enterprise award at the Towns Alive Awards 2014 with an end of summer party night market on Friday 29th August 2014.
The Towns Alive awards have been established as Britains most prestigious awards for town and city community projects for 10 years and recognised the market for its innovative approach to spurring on high street regeneration. Judges commented The disparity between a dying high street and an appetite for alternative shopping destinations is endemic in the UK. Levenshulme Market shows that there is a natural, profitable, community-led solution.
To celebrate their win and to bring a fitting close to their summer season of fantastic events, Levenshulme Market will be hosting a night market on Friday 29th August 2014, from 4.00pm 9.00pm on their usual site, by the train station in Levenshulme.
Director, Helen Power said Our night market events are legendary parties, so we thought this was the best way to celebrate this achievement and the end of what has been a fantastic summer for us. The event will act as a showcase for Levenshulme Market with some of their very best traders on hand to sell their wares and keep the party going with plenty of food and drink options. Alongside some fantastic global street food including Malaysian, Italian, S. American and British options and a full real ale bar from Those Four, we will also have some of our best non-foodie traders everything from stunning art prints designed in Levenshulme, to geeky art and accessories, handmade soaps and mid-century furniture and homewares and vintage clothes and accessories. We hope that this night market will provide a snapshot for shoppers of everything that we do best.
There will be entertainment throughout the evening provided by Oxfam, who have collaborated with the market throughout this summer - providing a varied lineup of live music for shoppers. Helen Power says working with Oxfam has been fantastic this will be their last market with us this year, as they begin to focus their efforts on their festival and we wish them the best of luck - it has been an amazing summer and we are working with them to develop an extra special line up of entertainment for the night market so they will go out with a bang!.
The market will continue to be held every week in the run up to Christmas, offering shoppers an alternative to the supermarkets with staples like bread, cheese, eggs, meat and fruit and veg accounting for around a third of the 50 stalls, with the remainder of the stalls being grouped around rotating weekly themes:
- 1st Saturday of the month Handmade and home: the market for modern craft and home wares - from photography and art to vintage furniture and hand-crafted jewellery
- 2nd Saturday of the month Food and drink: exclusively food and drink traders selling artisan produce and products
