ONE of the Northern Quarter’s pioneer bars is getting a much-needed makeover. The Bay Horse, creation of the symmetrically monickered business partners Yvonne Goldsmith-Rybka and Nicky Rybka Goldsmith over a decade ago is in new hands.
The new owners are no strangers to the NQ – Ross Mackenzie, Jobe Ferguson and Lyndon Higginson, who collectively own Cane and Grain, two Crazy Pedros and The Liars Club (while Ross and Jobe also boast Black Dog Ballroom in their stable and Jobe runs TNQ).
Revamped in time for summer, the new venture in a Grade II-listed building will be renamed Bay Horse Tavern and retain all the hallmarks of a traditional boozer.
Ross Mackenzie told us: “The Bay Horse has always been one of the city’s most-loved drinking dens and as a sign of respect for its Manchester heritage we thought we’d use it’s original and historic name as part of the new one.
“This is what this venture is all about, mixing the old with the new to create a unique offering that is unlike any of the other pubs in the area. We want The Bay Horse Tavern to still be known as a traditional-style pub, but one where you will get just as great a meal, as you will get a great pint.”
In the meantime, with a combined turnover of more than £7 million, the successful management trio are working on an expansion plan aimed at both Leeds and Liverpool with the aim of hitting £15 million turnover in 2018.
