Wine enthusiasts are invited to quench their thirst for knowledge at fine dining Spanish restaurant Grado when celebrity chef and restaurateur Paul Heathcote introduces a new monthly wine club. Open to all, the club will help diners brush up their skills and a trained sommelier will demonstrate how to open, pour and taste wine like a professional.

The Heathcotes Wine Club will launch on Thursday, July 16 at Grado – which scooped MFDF’s Best Wine List Award last year – and will run alongside a three-course meal expertly matched with a glass of wine per course (£30pp). Each month, the club will cover a different topic such as the origins of particular varieties and how to choose the best bottle and will also aim to dispel some of the common myths about wine.

Paul said: “People are increasingly aware of the wine choices they make so I wanted to create a club for people who share an interest in good food and good wine. We’ve designed a programme of events so people can increase their knowledge, enjoy some fantastic cooking and have a great time.â€?

The club’s timely launch comes after 13 wines from Heathcotes’ wine lists were honoured at this year’s Sommelier Wine Awards, with six making it to the gold list.

Gary Scott, wine buyer for Heathcotes restaurants, said: “Our wine lists often go out on a limb, offering wines with unusual grape varieties and names people might not have heard of. Each wine is chosen because of its ability to deliver true quality at the right price. I am delighted that so many of the wines we have chosen to present have been honoured.â€?

Among those honoured at the recent Sommelier Wine Awards was the Fernando de Castilla Antique Oloroso NV, which is available at Grado.
