Manchesters much loved Lowry Hotel has been bestowed an Award of Excellence in The Tea Guilds prestigious Top City and Country Hotel 2013 Tea Guild Awards. Now in its 28th year, The Tea Guild Awards are considered to be the Oscars of the tea industry. To seek out the finest tea experience in the UK, a team of expert tea inspectors undertake clandestine afternoon tea assignations in tea rooms and hotels across Britain.
Anonymous judges award points for the variety, flavour and knowledge of the teas offered, together with the quality of food, service, décor, ambience, and presentation. Afternoon tea served at The Lowry was exceptionally good and the judges awarded them very high marks in every category. The Tea Guild is part of The UK Tea Council Ltd (www.tea.co.uk), which is a non-profit making, independent organisation dedicated to raising the profile of tea in the UK and 70 establishments in total across Britain have received an Award of Excellence.
Other regional winners of note included Davenports Tea Room, in Cheshire, which won the Top Tea Place in Britain award.
