MANCHESTER Food and Drink Festival have announced the dates for the city’s 19th annual celebration of all things gastronomically great up North. MFDF 2016 will take place from Thursday, September 29 to Monday, October 10.
The first programme announcements will be made before then end of May with the promise of famous faces, a jam-packed cavalcade of foodie events featuring exciting new venues and partners, the MFDF Gala Dinner and Awards and, of course, the return of the Festival Hub to Albert Square.
The 2015 figures confirm the Hub’s amazing popularity. 90,000 folk visited, 7,000 G&Ts were sunk there, 50 bands played, street food was served by 36 different vendors. Cake lovers got their slice of the action, too, at the Great Manchester Bake-off (pictured top)
Citywide 48 events took place, while 200 restaurants, bars and businesses supported the festival. And, of course, some of them were our big Food and Drink Awards winners.
“Its great to see Manchester continually named in lists of the best places to live in the UK and to be recognised on the global stage,” commented Phil Jones, the Festival’s founder. “Our world-class food and drink community is a major reason for that. It’s incredible to think how far Manchester’s gastronomic offer has come since the first festival almost 20 years ago. The 2016 event will be a celebration of Manchester’s great food scene and the people who make it what it is.”
