Manchester Food & Drink Festival plans extra special celebration for 25th anniversary

24 May 2022 by Deanna Thomas

Manchester Food and Drink Festival (MFDF), one of the largest and original urban street food celebrations in the UK, will be 25 in 2022. This year will see an extra special celebration of the city’s incredible food and drink scene as the hospitality industry comes together between 15th-26th September.

To mark a quarter of a century since the city’s original food festival launched in 1997, the MFDF team is busy putting together an exciting programme of events that looks back at the best bits of the last 25 years as well as looking to the present and the future.

As always, the Festival will showcase the most innovative and exciting food talent in the region right now; it will celebrate the incredible journey that Manchester’s food and drink scene has taken over the last 25 years; and explore what the next quarter century will hold.

The 25th anniversary Festival Hub, based at Cathedral Gardens, will be the biggest yet. The free to enter, pop-up food and drink village will include a huge beer bar, wine and gin bars, street food stalls, an artisan food market, masterclasses, banquets and live music.

Further events will be taking place outside the Festival Hub as MFDF plans to bring a packed programme of activities to restaurants, bars and extraordinary venues across the region. Some of the most successful events and most memorable chefs from the past 25 years will be making a return and there’ll be a Festival spectacular planned for each night of the eleven day extravaganza.

Festival organisers also plan to make this year’s MFDF the most sustainable festival yet with panel talks, zero waste and budget cooking classes and a completely plastic-free Festival Hub all focused around recycling, reducing and reusing.

Manchester’s best restaurants and bars, most talented chefs and operators, makers, bakers and innovators are all invited to be a part of this annual celebration. MFDF is asking anyone who wants to be part of this milestone event for the city to contact [email protected]

Festival founder Phil Jones said: “We’re proud and excited to be presenting the 25th Anniversary Manchester Food and Drink Festival. I can honestly say when we started the festival 25 years ago, we could never have imagined what was to come for the city or the event itself.

“This year’s Festival will be about celebrating that progress and looking ahead too… From restaurants who took part in the very first MFDF to some of the hottest new talent, it’s going to be a superb Festival for everyone”

The MFDF Awards, usually the culmination of the festival will be taking place on 26th September at a venue to be announced.
