A Manchester-based food journalist has fought off heavyweight writers such as Jay Rayner and John Walsh to scoop a national award. Emma Sturgess was crowned Restaurant Reviewer of the Year by the Guild of Food Writers at the society’s annual awards ceremony in The Great Hall, Lincoln’s Inn, London.

Emma has earned acclaim for her reviews in Metro and was awarded the sought-after accolade by one of the countries most famous food critics Egon Ronay.

Among those also honoured at the star-studded ceremony were Heston Blumenthal, who won the Food Book of the Year Award, and Mary Berry who received a Lifetime Achievement honour.
