Manchester Restaurants support the homeless with StreetSmart

1 November 2012

The national StreetSmart campaign launched today, seeing Manchester restaurants once again playing their part to help the homeless over Christmas.

StreetSmart works by participating restaurants adding £1 to customers bills throughout November and December. This a voluntary contribution and the amount is the same no matter how large the party.

With hundreds of restaurants doing this nationally, a small gift can make a positive impact on the lives of the UKs homeless population with the 2011 campaign raising £760000 nationally, Manchester restaurants alone raised £23000 which was match funded by the government to generate £46000 of funding for local projects.

Participating restaurants in Manchester this year include:
Aumbry, Prestwich.
Australasia, Spinningfields, City Centre.
Choice Bar and Restaurant, Castlefield, City Centre.
Damson, Heaton Moor.
Giovannis Deli, City Centre.
The Grill on the Alley, City Centre.
The Lime Tree Restaurant, Didsbury.
The Lime Tree Restaurant and Wine Bar, Bollington.

Organisations like these offer crucial support to the homeless through empowering activities such as allotment schemes, counselling, workshops and mentoring, as well as practical help for homeless people through soup runs, clothing and bedding distribution and shelter.
