Marble toast chocolate ale's sweet success and host Magic Rock

HEADY times at Marble. The godfather of today’s crop of Manchester craft breweries has scooped a major national award for its Chocolate Marble – Champion Winter Beer of Britain at CAMRA’s National Winter Ales festival – while its revamped NQ bar, 57 Thomas Street, is hosting a Meet The Brewer Event with transpennine peers Magic Rock.

The brewer in question is Joe Ince, who will introduce six beers from the enterprising Huddersfield-based brewery, including a new addition to their range, Inhaler IPA, and Bearded Lady Orange Chocolate.

As for Marble’s own chocolate treat, chair of the NWAF judging panel Christine Cryne praised the 5.5ABV beer’s “lovely chocolate aroma with a flavour of marmalade, mocha and raisins”, while CAMRA national director Nik Antona said: “It embodies everything a great winter beer should be, packed with flavour, complexity and depth, but still incredibly drinkable.”

Meanwhile, from Tuesday, March 8, fellow NQ bar Ply is hosting a weeklong tap takeover by East London brewery Redchurch. From their Bethnal Green base Redchurch have "explored the outer limits of brewing techniques and flavours", creating   experimental beers fermented from wild and traditional yeasts. Best not ask for a pint of bitter then.

Meet The Brewer. 57 Thomas Street, Manchester, M4 1NA. Monday, March 7 6.30pm, £18.50, to include six beers and meat and cheese nibbles.
