Mass bar closures in the Northern Quarter as MAD Ltd enters liquidation

31 October 2018

THE casualties are mounting across the city’s food and drink scene. Already reeling from the demise of Manchester House and Artisan with The Rabbit set to follow, now the NQ based hospitality group Mark Andrew Developments (MAD Ltd) has fallen into liquidation.

That means the shutters are up at Rosylee, The Fitzgerald, Walrus, Hula, Tusk and The Blue Pig with an estimated 120 staff set to lose their jobs.

First indication of the shock closures came in a Tweet from Greater Manchester Night Time Economy Adviser Sacha Lord: “Sadly, a large operator, with many bars in the Northern Quarter has just closed its doors and gone into liquidation. Some great bars amongst the group. I expect there will be a quick rescue package. Large job losses, I hope the operator deals with them correctly.”

Probably no operator in the whole Manchester sector had expanded so rapidly recently with further venues in Heaton Moor and West Didsbury and the Lazy Lizard in The Printworks in addition to the MAD Printing Company in Stevenson Square.
