The second talk in the Massive Change series, launched by the Biospheric Studio at the start of the year, will establish key changes needed in the city's food production system.
On the 20th November, some of the best minds in Manchester and beyond will meet to set out a vision for Manchester's growth over the next decade.
István Kenyeres will join the panel; a leading figure in engineered ecosystems, specialisng in systems to facilitate the closing the water, food, waste and energy loops in cities
The series, which is hosted by Vincent Walsh, are a part of the Biospheric's ambition to guide the city into a new era of sustainable food production and waste management.
The Biospheric Foundation, established in Salford, is a state-of-the-art urban farm and research centre, where Walsh and the team run a range of community projects set up to change the culture of food production and distribution.
Walsh recently ran SHROOM - a pop up mushroom farm - at the Manchester Food and Drink Festival. The self contained urban farm supplied the on-site street food stall, reducing 'food miles' to 'food meters'.
After previewing at the Manchester Food and Drink Festival, the farm will take a permanent home in the city centre and supply local restaurants with organic shiitake mushrooms, going from farm to fork within 24 hours.
