GOOD news for ToM, always keen to promote independent ventures – MasterChef 2015 winner Simon Wood has committed himself to opening his own restaurant, this summer on up-and-coming First Street – promising ‘modern interpretations of traditional flavours’.
The former data manager from Chadderton has been working as exec chef Oldham Event Centre (part of Oldham Athletic Football Club), while penning a cookbook, ‘At Home with Simon Wood – Fine Dining Made Simple’, published this week.
The lifelong Latics fan has pledged to continue working at the club, launching a monthly pop-up restaurant in the boardroom from April 21, but all eyes will be on his new venture (subject to licensing approval) on Jack Rosenthal Street, where the varying likes of Indian Tiffin Room, Gas Works, Laundrette and Liquor Store have all arrived in the past year to feed off the presence of the £25m Home arts complex.
