STOCKPORT is well served for traditional real ale pubs – the likes of The Magnet and the Crown, to name but two. Nowadays there’s a new focus for a beer crawl… around the town’s Market Square.
Check out the Remedy Bar and Brew House, the revamped Baker’s Vaults and the nearby microbar, The Petergate Tap. Joining them is Project 53, newly opened tap room for the Mobberley Brewery, offering 30 small batch gins and a range of pizzas alongside a comprehensive selection of their own ales and guests.
It is situated in former furniture shop on the Market Place itself, next door to the Produce Hall – earmarked to be reopened as a food hall by local restaurateur Steve Pilling – and a perfect spot to grab a quick pint during the the weekly Foodie Friday street food events outside the historic Covered Market.
Brewery owner James Roberts and his sister have created a stripped-back setting featuring concrete floors, bare brickwork and tables converted from beer barrels. They have plans to open a second tap in Knutsford. Watch this space.
Project 53, 22 Market Place, Stockport SK1 1EU. Open noon-11.30pm, Sunday to Thursday, and noon to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
