Moon Rise Run – fund-raising, fine food, top sounds and a fun party

2 April 2015

MOON Rise Run is a brand new night run and post-race festival arriving at Heaton Park on Saturday, April 18, combining a charity fun run with live music and refuelling opportunities. Think glowing, lantern-lit trees, live music and DJs, artisan street food and a bar.

After nightfall, the 5km course will be transformed into an enchanting passage across the park, illuminated with bespoke and beautiful festoon lighting and by the LED Moonbeam wristbands given to each runner. The neon procession will cross the finish line and then it’s time to party!

The musical line up that will be provide the post-run festival soundtrack on the Moon Rise Stage has just been announced:

Celtic Viking Music band Firewoodisland forge Welsh and Norwegian folk traditions; Lily Jo is a pop and soul singer-songwriter from Manchester, who has backed the likes of Damon Albarn, Roots Manuva an Shaun Ryder and gigged at Glastonbury; rising folk talent Joseph Lofthouse, originally from Edenfield has toured the States and supported Elbow; bringing the Festival to a close will be Happy Mondays leading lady Rowetta (above) and vivacious DJ/magazine editor VIVA Ems.

The food line-up is just as enticing with pizzas from Wood, Fire & Smoke; pulled pork (their Smokestack burger is pictured below) and other smoky treats from Grillstock; and savoury and sweet crepes and galettes from Madame Francoise

More About Moon Rise Run…

The running course is a gentle exploration of the park, and suitable for all levels of experience – from first timers to seasoned pros. The idea is to combine fitness and well being with fun and socialising, all as part of a shared experience in a beautiful, specially created environment.

Although participants don’t have to fundraise to participate in this event, Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity are an official local charity to the event.  This means that participants can easily opt-in to raise funds for the organisation via their run.

The ticket price gains each runner their entry into the race, limited edition Moon Rise Run T-shirt, LED Moonbeam wristband, race number and entry into the post-race festival. Festival-only tickets are also available to allow supporters the opportunity to revel in the festival celebrations after cheering on their friends and family.

Moon Rise Run is an inclusive event. The gentle course and welcoming, laid-back atmosphere of the festival make it suitable for everyone from novice runners and serious athletes to music lovers, festival fans, families, big social groups, and anyone looking for a new and memorable experience.

The race will start at 7.45pm with entry from 5.30pm, and warm up at 7.15pm. The post-race festival will end at 11pm. Tickets for single entry, groups, and festival-only are on sale now.
