‘GLOBAL’ and ‘Street’ go together like mango and chutney, buns and slaw in the ever-expanding world of food fests, but the new Moss Side Food Festival offers a fresh spin on the whole melting pot.
This free, eclectic event in Alexandra Park this Saturday (May 13) has been set up by teenage girls from the area, in conjunction with youth leadership charity RECLAIM, their mission to improve the image of this inner-city area with a troubled past.
It ticks all the family day out boxes with live music, arts, crafts, sports events and face painting for the kids, but it is the food from more than 20 vendors representing Moss Side’s ethnic diversity that sets it apart. Cuisines on offer include Caribbean, Irish, Polish, Indian and Somali. Food is £5 for adults and £2.50 for children under 12. All the food comes from Moss Side, and the money raised will go back into the community.
Sat May 13, Alexandra Park, Russell Street, Manchester M16 7JL, noon-4pm, £5 adults, £2.50 children but also lots of free activities too. For more information and to book a plate visit Moss Side Food Festival.
