A new family-run bakery will be opening on Cross Street in Altrincham this week. Behind MOST Bakery is Matt Townley, a former primary school teacher and passionate self-taught baker who launched a home-based micro bakery, One Mile Bakery, during lockdown. Bread deliveries soon took off and Matt jumped at the chance to expand when the old Warrens Bakery space became available in the town centre. His wife Suze, a former solicitor, will take the reins running the business-side of the operation.
The MOST bakery team will offer eight different types of slow-fermented bread, as well as classic and savoury croissants, pain au chocolates and cruffins. There will also be a selection of cakes and tarts, cookies, brownies and whole host of choux pastries. The couple’s eight year old daughter Olivia plans to head up the gingerbread section.
Drinks will include brews from Kickback Coffee, wines from Reserve Wines, and there will be a range of cheeses, butters, smoked salmon and kimchi from local suppliers.
MOST also plans to offer bread making classes for both adults and children in the next few months. Classes will run with sustainability as a focus and the first class will be ‘Bread & Beer’ where attendees learn how to make bread using spent grains from the local brewery. Kids will be able to learn how to bake from scratch.
“There's often a local bakery at the heart of every town and we want to create a warm and friendly community hub for the people of Altrincham, while serving amazing freshly baked bread, pastries and other treats,” says Matt Townley.
Opening on Saturday 25th June, the team will be celebrating by giving away 100 free brownies, free gingerbreads for the kids and £1 cupcakes, inviting locals to come and try their bakes.
MOST is located at 3-5 Cross Street, Altrincham.
Opening times: Tues - Fri 8am - 4pm, Sat 9am - 5pm.
