ABOVE is a sneak preview of the stunning atrium stripped back to its original beauty inside the Corn Exchange that by the end of August should be hosting the advance guard of eateries scheduled for this £30m project.
The latest to confirm is Mowgli, brainchild of charismatic barrister and food buff Nisha Katona (pictured), whose restaurant twist on Indian street food has been wowing Liverpool since it opened last October (though Guardian critic Marina O’Loughlin wasn’t so impressed – read her review).
Soon then we can all make our own mind up about this and other operations that have signed up – the official site lists them as Pho, Byron Burgers, Pazza Express, Eclectic Grill, Tampopo, Zizzi, Cabana, Banyan, Salvi’s, Vapiano, Cosy Club and Wahaca, although there has been lots of speculation about whom might join them in this self-styled foodie mecca.
The three-level 200-cover Mowgli is set to open its doors mid-September with a menu built around the idea of chat – “small plates of explosive, virtuosic flavours featuring the tang and zing of tamarind and coriander” goes the spiel. Here’s a link to their Liverpool menu.
