Acclaimed Lancastrian eatery Northcote has received a prestigious nod in recognition of its culinary prowess. The Langho-based restaurant was announced as a runner-up in the Remy Martin XO Excellence Awards, which highlight the overall best restaurants across the UK. The award is a result of painstaking analysis of the survey of 8,000 diners for the publication of the Harden’s UK Restaurant Guide 2010.

The Remy Martin XO Excellence Award is for the best all-round restaurant and aims to identify the cream of the UK’s competitive dining scene. Northcote was beaten to the top by Ludlow restaurant Mr Underhill’s, but was joined in the runner-up group by industry heavyweight’s Gidleigh Park (Chagford), Raymond Blanc’s Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons (Great Milton) and Waterside Inn (Bray).

Television chef and co-owner of Northcote Nigel Haworth said: “We are lucky enough to have some of the world’s finest produce on our doorstep. Lancashire should be very pleased with itself. Both myself and Craig Bancroft are incredibly proud of our wonderful team and thank them for all their hard work to date.â€?

Co-editor of Harden Restaurant Guides Richard Harden commented: “There are still frankly too few culinary highlights in the North West of England, so it’s wonderful the way Northcote stands as a real beacon of quality – for food, for service and for ambience – that’s truly notable at the national level.â€?
