Foodies are being urged to swap their poultry for pulses and their spring lamb for spring greens during National Vegetarian Week (NVW).
Organised by the Vegetarian Society, based in Altrincham, the seven-day celebration of all things veggie runs from Monday, May 18 to Sunday, May 24 and will include a host of events aimed at encouraging people to give vegetarian food a try.
Manchesterâs popular vegetarian health food shop and café The Eighth Day is celebrating NVW by offering a 5% discount to all Vegetarian Society members on presentation of their membership card until Sunday, May 24.
The Oxford Road outlet is also hosting a wine and cheese tasting evening from 6pm - 8pm on Tuesday, May 19 when a tutored wine tasting will be led by Adrian Watts from organic wine supplier Vintage Roots. A selection of seven organic and vegan wines from Europe will be available to sample alongside vegetarian Lancashire cheeses from Leagram Dairy in Preston.
Tickets cost £5 (available from the shop) and include a free glass of fizz on arrival as well as cheese with local bread. A 10% discount will also be given on any wine purchases on the night.
