New pop-up: Appleton Estate rum bus comes to Great Northern Square

15 July 2014

Appleton Estate Rum Bus is coming to Manchester for a four-week stopover, with the team from West Didsbury’s The Violet Hour serving cocktails made from the Jamaican spirit in Great Northern Square.

The specially converted 'rum' bus, has a side-opening bar and inside seating area as well as an 80-seater outdoor space, with benches and parasols to allow rum lovers to enjoy the air - and one of four fabulous cocktails at the same time.

The cocktail experts at The Violet Hour have come up with the cocktail list and will serve Appleton classic Rum Punch, Mai Tai and Jamaican Mule - plus the specially created Rum & Raisin Nice Dream. There will be limited edition weekly specials too, announced over Twitter.

The Appleton Estate Rum Bus is inspired by the Jamaican "Omnibus series bus", which operated in Kingston, Jamaica from 1948 until the late 1970s.  The big idea is to experience the  heritage and tradition of Jamaica where Appleton Estate has been making rum since 1749.

Dan Pollard, owner of the Violet Hour, comments: “From the moment we saw the Appleton Estate Rum Bus we knew it would be perfect for a summer of Rum in Manchester. The quality, attention to detail is second to none, as of course is the Rum. Following the huge success of The Violet Hour in Didsbury, this is our first project in the city centre and we can’t wait for everyone to get on board.”
