NOW OPEN: Higher Ground and Flawd's Bar Shrimp finally opens on New York Street

22 October 2025 by Rhiannon Ingle

Bar Shrimp has officially opened its doors on 7 New York Street - the latest creation from the team behind Manchester favourites Higher Ground and Flawd.

This brand-new spot is already making waves, serving up a cracking list of considered cocktails, beers on tap, and the best of British seafood and snacks - all set to a world-class sound system designed to match the über-cool atmosphere.

Daniel Craig Martin, Joseph Otway, and Richard Cossins - together with their talented teams - have brought their signature hospitality and passion for quality to this new venture, creating a space that’s both relaxed and refined.

Bar Shrimp’s cocktail list perfectly balances precision and playfulness.

  • The Shrimp Spritz (£12.50) opens things up with a bright, lightly bitter fizz built on Vergano Americano and Asterley Bros vermouth - an instant house favourite.

  • For something shaken, the Midnight Margarita (£13.50) is a standout, with mezcal, elderberry and lemon bringing smoky-sweet depth.

  • The Piccadilly Plaza (£13.50), made with blackcurrant leaf vodka and tayberry, feels like Manchester in a glass: tart, aromatic and inventive.

For the classics, there’s refinement in the Vieux Carré (£14) and a touch of theatre in Death in the Afternoon (£19), made with Champagne and absinthe.

And don’t overlook the Shrimp Shots (the Disco Bal (£6) (mezcal, Yellow & Green Chartreuse) or the C.A.R (£5) (coffee, Averna, rum) which are small but mighty doses of fun.

On tap, local favourite Cloudwater supplies the beers, while the wine and Champagne list leans serious, featuring producers like Thomas Perseval, Charles Dufour, and Laherte Frères.

Seafood is the star here, with Bar Shrimp sourcing the best from around the British Isles.

  • Oysters come from Scotland, Cornwall, and Ireland, served simply with fireside vinegar, Tabasco and lemon.

  • The Hand-dived scallop tartare (£12.50) is a delicate and briny showstopper while the Isle of Lewis mussels (£10 for six) are perfect for sharing.

  • For indulgence, the Full House (£42) oyster selection or Exmoor Caviar (£45–£52) with house crisps and sour cream are the ultimate treats.

From the plates menu, the Devilled eggs with brown crab and trout roe (£4.50) are instant crowd-pleasers, while the British bluefin tuna crudo (£16) and Cornish crab cocktail (£15) sound equally mouth-watering.

For something heartier, the Dexter beef burger (£12.50) and Hand-cut fries with cod roe mayo (£6.50) keep things grounded.

Finish with Caramalt soft serve (£7.50) - topped with malt caramel and bread frosties - or upgrade with a splash of rum or an affogato shot.

So, whether you’re dropping in for a post-work pint, sharing plates with friends, or settling in for a late-night date, Bar Shrimp is the place to be.
