Pay-per-minute cafe Ziferblat launches biggest branch yet – in MediaCityUK

A TENDENCY to nod off at desks means this member of the ToM staff might not get the best value out of Ziferblat. The rate per minute at these pay as you stay co-working venues is 8p (or £4.80 an hour) and for that you get unlimited coffee, tea, cakes, biscuits and snacks, plus access to Wi-Fi, board games, magazines and newspapers. No time off for 40 winks, mind.

The popularity of this concept, founded in Russia, has been proved in the Northern Quarter, so now they have launched a second Ziferblat here, its largest ‘sitting room’ yet, at MediaCityUK, encompassing the ground and mezzanine floors of Tomorrow, a new creative an digital workspace. The space can accommodate meetings for 2-100 people as well as larger conferences for up to 250 delegates.

It shares the shabby chic look of the Edge Street operation, which attracts over 10,000 guest a month, and adds two garden sheds and a classroom which can be used for community events. These will include secret gigs, yoga classes, film clubs, pop-up food events and themed talks.

There’s also a ‘digital window’ between Ziferblat’s MediaCityUK and Northern Quarter venues, with live stream screens giving guests a real-time view of the other location.

All this activity fuelled by copious amounts of Ziferblend, which you can even take away, on an honesty box basis. But, if the caffeine doesn’t kick in will there be someone to wake me up?
