Pollard Yard welcomes Manchester’s new wine shop, bar and tasting room, Le Social

24 January 2022 by Deanna Thomas

Retailer and supplier of sustainable, organic, biodynamic and natural wines, Le Social, is launching their newest drinking and dining concept on Saturday 29th January in Pollard Yard in New Islington.

Every Saturday between 2pm and 10pm, Le Social will welcome guests into its bar and shop, which sits within a former shipping container, where they can experience an ever-evolving menu of natural wines, deli boards and continental plates.

The cosy, minimalist interior makes the perfect hideaway for guests to explore a selection of the finest wines rooted in cultural heritage and geographical identity - each with its own story to tell. Every bottle of mostly organic and biodynamic wine has been handpicked with excellent taste, individuality and character in mind.

Le Social’s shelves will be stacked with a diverse range of unique and quirky wines. By rotating their selection and including options with a different style and price point, everyone can feel confident that there is a bottle for them on the shelves. Simply take your pick and pay the retail price plus £5 corkage to enjoy in the setting. Tables are bookable for two-hour slots so guests can enjoy drinking and grazing at their own pace - as space is limited, bookings are mandatory.

Le Social’s Deli will offer a classic selection of continental plates, created with responsibly sourced ingredients, to compliment your wine. The no fuss sharing menu showcases an array of authentic French, Spanish and Italian produce, which like the wines, support a community of independent farmers and producers.

Curate your own spread from the likes of Spanish green olives and salted almonds, Catalan sardines in olive oil, Italian eggplant fillets in olive oil, roasted artichoke halves, French duck rillettes or black humus from the Basque Country. Cheese will be selected weekly by Butcher’s Quarter and bread comes from Ancoats’ Companio Bakery.

Le Social is also launching its new Tasting Room, designed to host wine tastings, workshops and private functions. Events will include educational tasting nights, art exhibitions, craft workshops with other Pollard Yard residents and more to be announced.

The Tasting Room is available to hire for private wine sessions and boutique event experiences for birthdays, work functions and any other celebrations. The minimalist nature of the space means guests can add their own personal touches on request.

Social consciousness flows throughout Le Social with environmental and social impact factored into every element. Founder Jérôme Boullier’s wider mission is to advocate for a more inclusive and representative wine world by working with independent, sustainable and minority wine producers. His appreciation of community and the environment translates into sourcing and pouring wines which make a positive social impact throughout the supply chain, from the people working in the vineyards to the friends and families who will live a special moment sharing them.

“With Le Social I want to create an alternative wine-led space which is centred on experience and inclusivity,” says Jérôme. “The Wine Bar and Tasting Room will serve as cosy destinations where all are welcome to appreciate delicious wine with a purpose and food that will enhance the experience. The intimate nature of the bar means customers will gain knowledge as well as try out something new and exciting and meet new people in doing so!

“Wine has always been part of my everyday life, as a child I was often sent to the wine cellar in my grandparents’ house to find a specific bottle for the occasion. Family rituals were always accompanied by wines appropriately matched, and I was invited to try from a pretty young age! I’m so happy that I now have the opportunity to pursue my passion in a meaningful way. I’m very excited to show the space off.”

Le Social Wine Bar will be open every Saturday from the 29th January onwards. Bookings for both the bar and the Tasting Room can be made directly through Le Social’s website. Private function enquiries can be sent to [email protected] or call 0161 818 9906.
