WELL that didn’t last long. Despite celeb patronage Manchester never quite got the taste for the decadent Polynesian tiki brand that conquered Mayfair, Marbella and Dubai, so Mahiki at 1 Central Street is shutting its doors.
That’s just nine months after a glitzy launch that attracted David Beckham, whose old United team-mates Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs had a hand in bringing it to the city before stepping away.
“Welcome to Paradise” it said on the Manchester website, which now seems to have been taken down. The basement space, off Albert Square, is now expected to go back on the market.
