Pride Afternoon Tea adds extra glitz to The Lowry Hotel

7 August 2018

COLOURFUL cakes, anyone? This is part of The Lowry Hotel’s celebration of Manchester Pride every day throughout August in the build-up to the big Bank Holiday Weekend bash. The Pride Tea costs £29.50 but worth every penny at arguably the city’s best purveyors of afternoon tea.

Expect a sprinkling of culinary glitter alongside the classic components – gourmet sandwiches, traditional scones with clotted cream, and some very photogenic cakes, including sparkling macaroons and the rainbow cake pictured. A £1 donation to the Manchester Pride charity comes with every one sold.

The loose leaf tea is supplied by Manchester Tea merchant, James Green of Tea from the Manor, which chooses only the top three grades from the finest whole leaf and flower teas. Guests can upgrade to include prosecco or a cocktail, too.

The five-star hotel is currently serving 2,000 afternoon teas a month – blame the Great British Bake-off! – persuading them to replace traditional lunch with themed teas, starting with Pride Tea.

River Restaurant, The Lowry Hotel, 50 Dearmans Place, M3 5LH. 0161 827 4000 £29.50 a head until August 31.
