Revel in a summer in the Rhone at TNQ

19 June 2016 by Neil Sowerby

THE monthly Gourmet Evenings at the Northern Quarter Restaurant Bar revel in their own culinary and geographical ambition and that’s certainly true of the latest, A Summer In The Rhone.

It’s a five course dinner on Wednesday, June 29, matching dishes from Lyons and the fertile region along the great French river with wines from one of its greatest negociants, Jean Luc Colombo, in the company of his daughter, Laure (below). Tickets for this evening are £60, to include all food and wine; to reserve ring 0161 832 7115.

TNQ chef Anthony Fielden is certainly aiming for authenticity. His menu includes soupe de farine jaune, cervelle de canut (yellow flour soup with herby fromage frais);  salade Lyonnaise; hake quenelle and Nantua Sauce (pounded fish, usually pike in a crayfish sauce); guinea fowl, pistachio and duck liver terrine with apricots and sauternes jelly;  beef fillet, beetroot dauphinoise, cauliflower, wild mushrooms and summer truffle; cherry clafoutis, vanilla yoghurt foam and cherry sorbet. The main picture is of a classic quenelle dish.

TNQ, 108 High St, Manchester M4 1HQ. 0161 832 7115.
