PALATE bar in Chorlton is handing over its kitchen for an entire weekend (March 11-13) to that nomadic chef for hire Robert Owen Brown, who’ll be cooking some of the signature dishes that appear in his indispensable cookbook, Crispy Squirrel and Vimto Trifle.
A particular favourite is his pearl barley risotto, roasted beetroot and cow’s curd – a rare veggie sighting in a cuisine that veers towards nature red in tooth and claw (see picture above) and a snip at £7.50. For a fiver more fish lovers can order pan-fried skate wing with lemon and caper butter, while for pudding look no further than the best Eccles cakes around, served with Lancashire cheese for £4.50.
Palate, 516 Wilbraham Road, Chorlton, M21 9AW, 6pm-9pm, Open noon-midnight daily, with food served from noon-10pm.
