One of Manchesters most glamourous and well-regarded dining and drinking establishments, Rosso, has announced the first in an extraordinary new list of drinks available exclusively at Rosso. This is part of a series of exciting developments for the bar.... details soon to be announced.
Rosso is the first and only bar in the North of England to serve the 1962 Appleton Estate Jamaican Rum - a drink whose back story is as historic as it is romantic.
A small number of barrels were set aside in Jamaica, just before it received its independence in 1962, with a view to using them to create a very special blend of 50 year old rum that would hopefully come to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Jamaicas Independence.
As the rums rested in the oak barrels, a transformation took place as rich, complex flavours and aromas were developed naturally from the interaction of the rum with the oak, and the rums also became very smooth and mellow, developing a dark mahogany colour.
In preparation for the 50th Anniversary of Jamaicas Independence in 2012 (and with Jamaica now storming international events such as the Olympics) Master Blender Joy Spence conducted extensive quality checks on each barrel of rum to ensure that it had achieved the smoothness, complexity and richness worthy of the Appleton Estate 50 Year Old Jamaica Rum Jamaica Independence Reserve
Once Joy confirmed that the barrels had aged to perfection, each barrel was then individually rolled out of the warehouse to ensure that its cherished contents were protected.
After resting in oak barrels for fifty years, the final phase of the precious rums journey had begun.
Under Joys watchful eye, the cooper carefully removed the bung from each barrel and, after resting in oak for fifty years, the Appleton Estate 50 Year Old Jamaica Rum Jamaica Independence Reserve was finally released.
The 50 year journey from barrel to bottle is now complete. Limited Edition Appleton Estate 50 Year Old Jamaica Rum Jamaica Independence Reserve is the culmination of a timeless process perfected by the connoisseurs at the Appleton Estate.
This is the oldest commercially available rum in the world. With only 800 bottles in existence (Rossos bottle is number 192), Rosso is the only destination in the North of England where you can try this truly unique product.
The acquisition of the Appleton Estate 50 Year Old Jamaica Rum Jamaica Independence Reserve represents Rossos commitment to bringing a bar list worthy of the Capital to Manchester.
This will be the first of many exciting announcements surrounding Rossos new identity for the bar.
