LATE night den of debauchery The Liars Club is back after a much-needed refresher. Alongside the new look this self-styled Tiki Dive Bar and Caribbean Rum Shop has, of course, come up with a new cocktail menu, on stream from public relaunch night, Friday, June 9.
ToM took advantage of our VIP status to check out the Back Bridge Street basement, closed for two months for the £250,000 makeover, which includes new entrance seating, fresh lighting and even a higher ceiling. Actually, we went along for a shot or three of rum in its many creative adaptations.
The new cocktail menu offers 20 new tipples to sit alongside the bar’s infamous Zombie, which is made from a secret mix of various super-strength rums with absinthe, velvet falernum and cherry brandy and a blend of exotic fruit juices – so strong drinkers are limited to two per person (even us!).
The bartenders promise that newcomers such as Painkiller; 5 Spice and Stormy; The Lost Lady, and South of St Johns, will confirm the Polynesian-style bar as a Tiki contender on the world stage. It helps, too, when you stock more than 180 different rums, lovingly created by co-owner and Tiki-master Lyndon HIgginson.
He told us between sips of the pictured banana-led concoction: “We like to be full of surprises at The Liars Club and we look forward to reopening with our new look and new menu. The bar looks ace and I am super proud of our new cocktail menu with carefully selected world rums and Tiki classics, which I know our customers are going to love working their way through.”
The venue is also the first in the city to offer merry-makers the chance to buy their own branded bottles with over 100 different rums available to purchase in quarts, halves and full bottles.
The Liars Club, 19a Back Bridge Street, Manchester, M3 2PB. It officially reopens to the public on Friday, June 9 from 5pm- 4am. The bar offers happy hour drinking from 5-9pm seven days a week, with a third off sharers and two cocktails for £10.
