Salford’s huge waterfront food hall opens this Tuesday

10 September 2023

After a £3.5million revamp, Salford’s new Central Bay complex will open its brand-new 20 kitchen food hall to the public on Tuesday 12 September.

Kargo MKT has over 2,000 sq ft of outdoor, south facing terrace space, making it an ideal spot for alfresco drinking and dining in the last of the September sunshine. Ran by the Blend Family, Liverpool’s successful GPO and Sheffield’s award-winning Cutlery Works, Kargo MKT will welcome some of the city’s greatest independent food traders, marking a new era for dining at the home of the BBC.

The confirmed list of restaurants opening on Tuesday includes; Ad Moira, Bab K, Baity, Boba Cha, Feed, Hot & Wild, House of Habesha, Jerk Junction, Leopard Pie, Nila’s, Nori, Rio-Mex, Tand, ThatZiki, VNam, What’s Your Beef Burgers, Wong Dumplings and Rottu Kadai Dosa.

Each bringing their own unique dining style, you can expect Burmese dishes, packed Italian sandwiches, jerk chicken, south Indian food, waterside fish and chips, Neapolitan-style pizza and more. There’ll also be a bar selling beers, wine and cocktails to enjoy alongside the vast array of food.

Matt Bigland, founder and CEO at Blend Family said: “We take great pride in curating exciting culinary experiences for people and this is one of the most exciting line-ups of world food we’ve ever put together. We can’t wait to open the doors in partnership with Quayside MediaCity and see the smiles on faces as everyone enjoys the incredible plates these kitchens are going to serve.”

Kargo MKT will also offer dining deals throughout the week to those passing by. There’ll be a £6 lunch option from all kitchens Monday – Friday each week, £5 bottomless tea and coffee, happy hour deals,20% student discount, and a bottomless brunch option on weekends.

The new food market gives nod to the heritage of Central Bay, which was once a busy loading bay at the height of the industrial revolution. The team has worked with local artists and designers to nod to the past through signage and artwork, as well as the reimagined shipping containers that will house each pop-up.

Kargo MKT will open Monday – Wednesday 9am – 9pm, Thursday – Saturday 9am – 1am and Sunday 10am – 9.30pm. Walk-ins are accepted, or you can book a table in advance here.
