A SLICE of Naples, but 20 metres long? It happened. Italian food specialists Salvi’s rolled out the dough at the Manchester Food and Drink Festival hub in Albert Square on Sunday, October 2. Not one whole crust – that would be crazy – but pizzas laid out end to end on a trestle table.
And if the pizza was perfect, so was the pasts at the MFDF Italian Festival courtesy of a posse of real Italian ‘Nonnas’, including Teresa, mum of Salvi’s owner Maurizio Cecco. They performed heroicallly inside a marquee crammed with authentic produce specially flown over from the Ceccos’ native Naples. As was the band.
There was also a live Neapolitan Live Cookery Masterclass, headed up by Maurizio and Carlo Molon Executive Chef from Sheraton Hotel in Milan.
Salvi’s also hosted Italian Heritage Walks. A Greenbadge Guide took guests on a tour of the city, focusing on Manchester’s Italian legacy, with pit stops on the way at Salvi’s Cucina on John Dalton Street and Salvi’s Mozzarella Bar at The Corn Exchange.
Later an Italian Gala Dinner took place at the Corn Exchange restaurant where the live music continued alongside Peroni cocktail masterclasses and a specially created 4-course dinner and wines.
