San Carlo Group takes over 47 King Street West site

8 November 2016

THE San Carlo Quarter is becoming a reality! Already the celebrity haunt flagship restaurant is an arancini throw from baby brother Cicchetti, nesting elegantly inside House of Fraser. Now they are joined in a culinary triangle by 47 King Street West, across the road from both.

Acquiring the struggling French/British restaurant means the family owned group now owns six restaurants in Manchester – the other three are Fumo at 1 St Peter’s Square and Bottega and Gran Café within Selfridges, Exchange Square.

Group chairman Carlo Distefano – who launched the first Manchester San Carlo restaurant on King Street West in 2004 – told us: “We’re delighted to have acquired this site, it’s a great addition to the group and we look forward to unveiling our plans for this prime location in the near future.”

San Carlo now owns 17 restaurants across the UK with others in Kuwait, Bangkok and Qatar and new outlets set to open in Bahrain, Dubai and Riyadh.

Owner of 47 King Street West, Mike Hymanson, said: “We wish San Carlo well in this new and exciting venture. As a family business we have enjoyed an incredible five years made possible by our fantastic staff and so many customers who have become and will remain friends.”
