School for Scandal on First Street shuts after barely six months

13 February 2019

WELL that was quick. First Street bar School for Scandal barely lasted till half term.

ToM reviewed the bar in October, not long after it had moved into the former Laundrette site at 13 Jack Rosenthal Street.

We rather liked smart, the tattoo-themed concept created by Danny Fox, once of Living Ventures and the globally inspired all-day menu was surprisingly good, the flagship black cod and vegan options especially.

Plan was for landlords Vita Student, owned by the Select Property Group, to roll out the S for S brand allover the shop, but  the student accommodation provider has blamed ‘difficult trading conditions' for the template not taking off.

A statement posted on the restaurant's Facebook page said: "The unavoidable decision has come following the landlord of the property Vita Student needing to utilise the space to extend its student proposition on First Street following increasing demand.

We’d like to thank everyone who supported the site since it opened, the concept had created a loyal following and hopefully with our growing portfolio of buildings under construction we can find a new home for the concept in the future."

The site will now be turned into private communal spaces for the student accommodation on First Street.
