Scottish ‘bedroom brewers’ move south to boost the Piccadilly Beer Mile

5 November 2015 by Neil Sowerby

TALK about going the extra mile. Carbon Smith, an Edinburgh craft brewer that launched in a tenement flat two years go, is moving 200 miles to the south into  a railway arch in Piccadilly. A big attraction according to these ‘bedroom brewers’ is that the Manchester beer scene is far more significant than the Scottish capital’s.

Carbon Smith have made their name by brewing a large number of one-off ales with their standard brews based on takes on ‘Carbon’. Hence Carbon Copy Pale, Carbon Footprint Stout plus, more recherche, Carbon-12 IPA, named after the most stable isotope of Carbon, and, so suitable for Manchester, Graphene Porter.

TOM thinks they’ll fit in just fine among the Beer Mile’s eclectic craft bunch – Cave Direct, Piccadilly Tap, Track Brew Co, Alphabet Brew Co, Chorlton Brew Co, Squawk Brew Co and Beer Nouveau. They hope to be in situ by December to expand their operation. Follow them on @Carbon_Smith.
