Smokin: Red's True Barbecue opens off Albert Square

11 February 2014

The new site from the Leeds barbecue heroes, Red's, opens this Thursday (13 February) just off Albert Square in the former premises of Livebait. Given the trend for all things meaty, this new outfit is likely to do really well, with Red’s truly authentic low and slow barbecue cooking coming to Manchester for the first time.

The restaurant is inspired by the origins of deep south USA cooking. The style of cooking includes cuts of pork, beef, chicken and sausage marinated in traditional rubs and slow cooked for up to 24hrs in custom built Oklahoman smokers.Throw in a party atmosphere, and some lively lagers and cocktails and you've got a recipe for a party. They hosted Brooklyn Lagers recent pop up bar in Leeds so come over this way with a reputation for excellent food and beer to keep up.

We like the look of the Pit Burger (£5.95) with pulled pork, apple relish and artisan bread, not to mention serious, slow cooked ribs (£8.50), dry-rubbed and marinated for 24 hours then smoked over hickory and fruit woods for up to eight hours. Watch this space for a full review.

From Thursday 13 February, Red's True Barbecue, 22 Lloyd Street, off Albert Square, www.truebarbecue.com
