THE Northern Quarters SoLITA, is celebrating its first birthday with the launch of its updated basement dining area and new summer menu. Famed for its no-diet decadent menu - a blend of New York, Manchester and Italy, SoLITA on Turner Street is named after its historical location 'South of Little Italy' when the streets of Ancoats were home to a thriving Italian community.
Signature steaks and burgers are crafted from grass-fed Dexter cattle, cooked using specialist Inka charcoal closed barbecue ovens, designed to deliver all the taste and aromas of barbecue cooking in a restaurant environment.
Now, SoLITA is set to raise mainstream brows once more with the launch of a new summer menu featuring whats thought to be the UKs first DIY tartare, offal, seafood aplenty, dirty butter, a surprising range of salads and even something for vegetarians. Highlights included:
DIY tartare with steak and tuna options, guests will be brought the individual ingredients of these classic dishes to the table on a bespoke platter and will be able to season and mix the dish to their own taste
Seafood starters and small plates including beer boiled shrimp cooked in Sam Adams ale served with dirty butter plus Maryland Crab cakes served with SoLITA Big Manc sauce.
Plus decidedly meaty salads including Black and Blue (pictured) with mixed leaves, charcoal grilled rare steak and Italian blue cheese. If that souds, too healthy, finish with crispy fried chicken livers with neck bone gravy.
To counter the queues at weekends July also sees the opening of SoLITAs updated basement dining room which will boost covers by 60, including four new booths which seat between 8 and 14 people in an intimate setting.
