Solita to open a Prestwich restaurant on the site of Aumbry

6 January 2015

NORTH Manchester residents will no longer have to travel into the Northern Quarter or out to Didsbury to get their fill of Big Manc burgers and Jaffa Cake ice cream cake – or current dessert wow, the Ice Cream Donut Sandwich (below).

Solita, purveyors of these and assorted Italian/American and deep-fried treats, are launching a third outlet on the corner of Church Lane and Bury New Road, Prestwich, nocking together premises previously cupid by award-festooned Aumbry and its Indian restaurant neighbour Bombay.

Due to open in April (photographic impression above), it will boast 100 covers and a seating for a further 50 in an al fresco dining terrace plus a central kitchen, butchery and meat maturing room, where a full time butcher will be employed to prepare steaks, burgers and other grill items for all three Solita sites.

After the success of the original Turner Street restaurant in the Northern Quarter, owners Franco Sotgiu and Simon Pogson launched a second site in the former Cibo and La Tasca premises Didsbury in September.

And the pair's quest for culinary world domination shows no sign of slowing down. Word has it they are planning a pizza operation not a million miles from Solita Mark 1. Franco, whose INKA charcoal ovens have been a huge hit in serious restaurant kitchens, has been road-testing  a wood burning pizza oven.
