The cocktail scene in Manchester has exploded in recent years, truly upping the standard of drinks on offer. And where else to find some of the best tipples in the city but a five storey super salon?! Obviously.
Barn//it, on John Dalton Street, opened in November last year. Their five floors of hair and beauty heaven provide a wide range of treatments, including hair styling, facials, massages, brows, lashes, waxing and nails.
Barn//it puts the bar in nail bar as the cost of your manicure includes a cocktail or glass of prosecco. There is a dedicated barman who will serve up the drink of your choice for you to enjoy as you are pampered by the expert nail artists. The nail counter even looks like a bar, with high stools lined up by the long counter, with bottles of polish lining the shelves behind.
The cocktail menu includes classics like the Espresso Martini, which is just how you would want it to be – rich and dark but just sweet enough, with a thick layer of creamy, coffee foam resting on top. The Lady Grey cocktail is a clear purple cocktail, also served in a martini glass. It is flavoured with earl grey tea and lavender and is served with a side of parma violets. The 23.5 degrees cocktail is a gin based cocktail, shaken with egg white, flavoured with rose and topped with an edible purple flower.
A set of gel nails costs £38 and also includes a cocktail, cuticle work and a hand massage as standard. They also don’t charge for extras, such as the marble nail or metallic foils. The marble effect is created by swirling dots of other colours of nail polish. The signature barn it style is the marble nail on the ring finger of one hand and the index finger of the other. They can even put silver or gold foil on top. But whatever style you have, it will always cost £38, which allows you to relax and just have fun with your style … while sipping on a cocktail of course.
The complementary cocktails are not simply an added frill; they are as good quality as all the treatments barn it provides. It transforms getting your nails done into an experience. You could come with a friend at the beginning of your evening, before a special occasion, or as a treat for friends and loved ones. After your first cocktail, they are available to buy, 2 for £10. Which means that not only does barn//it serve some of the best cocktails in the city, it is one of the best value bars in the city centre too!
