If you work in the city centre, you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to lunch time. If you aren’t eagerly waiting in a mile long queue at Rustica, you’re indulging in a wallet-friendly rice and three over at This & That, but now, Stockport’s Rack are about to make the 12pm hump even harder.
The sandwich specialists have announced that they’re taking over the former Panc unit inside the Arndale Market. Tucking in nicely next to Hong Thai, another lunch time favourite, Rack are known for their incredible menu of doorstop size sandwiches and grilled cheese that they already serve from spots in both Stockport and Sale.
The menu features breakfast staples such as Cumberland sausage, Spam, smoked salmon and avocado, whereas the handmade lunch options – served from 11.30 – are a little more creative. Currently, Rack is serving a Bhaji butty, stuffed with onion bhaji, mango chutney, lime pickle, Bombay mix and lettuce, alongside their own take on a chicken sandwich that’s complete with chicken crisps.
Rack also offers a grilled cheese menu that comes served with zingy house slaw. There’s the Reuben, packed with pastrami, sauerkraut and Swiss cheese, alongside the Beef Birria and Goats Cheese and Truffle Honey that’s topped with walnuts and rocket. Hopefully the team is working on something just as special for the new opening.
Taking to Instagram, Rack said: “We’re taking over from PANC in the south side of Manchester Arndale’s Street Food Market, once the home of the legendary Salt & Pepper, we are here to satisfy your lunching needs, right in the town centre!”
Rack began its journey as a travelling food truck at various festivals and markets across the UK. Aiming to “level up the classic butty shop experience” the first shop opened in Stockport back in 2021, with the intention of jazzing up the monotonous meal deal.
Since then, the café has become a go-to lunch time treat spot and has opened further sites in Stretford foohall and also Sale high street.
Rack’s new city centre space opens on Monday 7 August from 10am – 4pm.
