TO kick off December, The Frost Fair returns to the Whitworth, this year celebrating 250 years of circus in the UK where it originated.
The two-day programme (Sat Dec 1 and Sun Dec 2) of free activities will include circus performances from the Travelling Light Circus, live music from DJs and performers, including Mr Wilson’s Second Liners. The Circus House presents Circus Baby for non-walking babies and their grown-ups, ‘Have-A-Go’ Circus Skills workshop, live trapeze performances and roaming stilt walkers throughout the weekend. At the forefront is Baron Bazaar’s Bewildering Brouhaha, circus spectacle at its best.
As before, this is an event that’s truly family-friendly with lots of hands-on activities. Walk The Plank, one of the UK’s foremost outdoor arts companies, will transform the front of the
Whitworth into a fiery courtyard and will mark the finale of the weekend with an enthralling firework display on Sunday evening. The Art Garden will be transformed into an outdoor cinema after dusk and there’s an array of and vintage fairground amusements.
There will be live music from performers such as the roaming brass band, Mr Wilson's Second Liners (above), as well as DJs and a full live music programme throughout the weekend in the picturesque Cafe in the Trees.
Throughout, there is delicious international street food pop ups and a seasonal beer bar.
December 1 and 2, 11am-7pm. The Whitworth (University of Manchester), Oxford Rd, Manchester M15 6ER.
